or check out as many books as they want, or eat ice cream for dinner, or mail weird things to their friends, or sleep with you, or wear what ever they want, or bring insects into the house, or take apart things, or dig a hole in the yard.....
you get the idea. whatever they want to do - see if there is a way you can say yes, enthusiastically, and then watch the learning, happiness, and family camaraderie grow. the automatic "no's" kill creativity, inquisitiveness and eagerness (and a little of your youth each time it crosses your lips).
this is my reminder for the week.
Wow - this is a wonderful post and a wonderful reminder!! I try to say yes as often as I can, and share your belief outlined here. I really like the way you said it! Thanks for the reminder!!!
ReplyDeletethank you! it is work for sure!
DeleteI'm thinking cereal and milk for dinner and jumping in the bed like the five little monkeys:)
ReplyDeletecereal for dinner is a great idea!
DeletePumping gas was a VERY bad example: It is illegal to pump gas unless you are 16 years of age (legal driving age) or older.
ReplyDeleteOh MAN- just today my 4 year old popped out of the car and wanted to try pumping the gas- I got all nervous, I let him stay and watch but didn't let him pump... argh, now I wish I had! next time
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic post, and a great reminder! Thank you for it!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more! I am naturally a person more on the uptight side and when I became a mom I had to learn not let everything be such a big deal and relax a little :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this post! I want to print it out and hang it up, if I have your permission. I let the kids dig holes in the yard (and fill them up with water...) It is a mess, but it is one of those times when they are so engaged in it that I simply can't say no!
ReplyDeleteof course! holes and water are two of the best thing ever. i can not imagine denying my kids that fun.
Deleteyes. such a great reminder. it's why there is usually a bit of egg shell in our scrambled eggs ;-)
ReplyDeletehere too!
DeleteI love saying "yes" to my little man.
