let your kids pump gas

or check out as many books as they want, or eat ice cream for dinner, or mail weird things to their friends, or sleep with you, or wear what ever they want, or bring insects into the house, or take apart things, or dig a hole in the yard.....

you get the idea. whatever they want to do - see if there is a way you can say yes, enthusiastically, and then watch the learning, happiness, and family camaraderie grow. the automatic "no's" kill creativity, inquisitiveness and eagerness (and a little of your youth each time it crosses your lips).

this is my reminder for the week.

  2. I'm thinking cereal and milk for dinner and jumping in the bed like the five little monkeys:)

  3. Pumping gas was a VERY bad example: It is illegal to pump gas unless you are 16 years of age (legal driving age) or older.

  6. I couldn't agree more! I am naturally a person more on the uptight side and when I became a mom I had to learn not let everything be such a big deal and relax a little :)

  7. I LOVE this post! I want to print it out and hang it up, if I have your permission. I let the kids dig holes in the yard (and fill them up with water...) It is a mess, but it is one of those times when they are so engaged in it that I simply can't say no!
